Design and implementation of wireless devices for Smart Plants  

Timeline: 2011 - 2013 - extended and refunded until end of 2015

The project tackles with the problem of developing an intelligent and pervasive layer for energy production plants by means of new methodologies and processes for data acquisition, aggregation, transmission, and storage. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is the reference technology suited for pervasive and cost-effective solutions involving low-cost and battery powered devices. The inter-operability issue will also be considered to guarantee that WSN-based applications will effectively co-exist with third party components (based on WSN, RFID or Body Networks) without the need of major legacy interventions.

We address the problem of gathering data from humans and machines, transforming experimental real-time observations into high level sensitive information; this information is in turn graphically rendered and/or consumed within safety and control applications.
